EBA: Second Felixstowe Fixture Postponed

Our first fixture against Felixstowe and Suffolk was moved before the start of the season to avoid a clash with the Felixstowe Tournament at the end of July. This will now be played on Weds 12th August.

Our home fixture, due to be played had to be delayed because Felixstowe had the Top Team match and Fours league on the same night... We accomodated the move, rearranging this for Weds 19th August. We have since discovered that the Top Team match was played a week earlier, and our match was cancelled due to some of the players being involved in a friendly against a touring team that afternoon. They didn't want to play twice in a day. Not sure why they lied to us, but we have reported them to the league - and we will try extra hard to stuff them 2 weeks a row!!

EBA 01/07/09: Still top (just)

Weds 3rd June - California - Away - LOST 5 - 1
California remain our bogey team. Everybody else seem to be able to beat them - even Felixstowe and Suffolk who are bottom of the league. Perhaps we will break our run of defeats when they visit us on 22nd July.

Weds 17th June - Norbridge Z - Home - WON 5 - 1
We almost lost the match against Norbridge Z. With 4 ends to go it was looking like a certain 5 - 1 loss as we were losing on 3 rinks and by 20 shots on the game. One rink was 17 - 8 down on the 14th end, but managed to pick up a 2, then a 3, then a 2, then a 3 on the last end to win the rink 18 - 17. We won 5 - 1, winning by 5 shots overall.

Weds 24th June - Sproughton - Away - WON 4 1/2 - 1 1/2
An unusual result as we drew on 3 rinks, but luckily the "late-starters" only gave an 8 point head-start and managed to win comfortably to win the match.

Weds 1st July - Margaret Catchpole - Home
This will be a tough match. There have a number of Eastern Counties/Middleton Cup players and I am sure they will be hoping to get some of the points back which we took off of them on the away leg.

EBA Result - 20/05/2009

This week we became the first team to beat Ipswich Bowls Club this season in a very tactical battle. In our first league visit to Graham Road, we won comfortably on 2 rinks to take the match 4 - 2 and end their unbeaten run. We will be prepared for the home leg where we hope to take lots more points from them (we will have an umpire on hand).

We must keep our feet on the mat - sorry I meant ground - as we have got another tough match next week against one of the best teams in the league, Norbridge A.

Well done team.

Townsend Friendly

On Saturday 25th April 2009, 24 players and a number of spectators made the trip to St Albans, Hertfordshire for our first friendly of the season. Although we lost by 10 shots, we all had a great day out and were very well looked after. We are now in discussions about a return leg.

Thanks to all at Townsend for their hospitality, and to everyone involved from Bourne Vale to make the trip possible.
